I grew up sailing with my parents and grandparents on the Delaware Bay inside Breakwater Harbor. Wind is crucial and it’s scary when you’re far away from the shore with little or none to fill your sails and bring you back home.
The christian life is similar, a journey that starts off in the shallows along the shore, evenually ending up out in the depths, and just like sailing sometimes the depths are so very hard to travel through.
But He is faithful in the shallows and in the depths. The depth require hard work in remaining steadfast, depending upon the wind-giver and knowing that unlike the wind, His love is constant. It doesn’t come and go and it’s never absent. The depths are made to be conquered, but only in HIs strength and not our own.
The christian life is meant to progress so much further than the shallows of our first yes to Jesus. It’s saying yes over and over and over again. Just when you think you’ve said it enough times, you realize that you’re only just getting started, and that the wonder of serving Him each and very day into eternity is worth it all.
